High School Teams Playing in Preseason Scrimmages

Much anticipated matchups include Tucker against Stephenson on Friday, August 12.

The 2011 high school football season gets underway as practice begins on Monday, August 1 across the state of Georgia, and 17 DeKalb Schools will take to the gridiron in preseason games on August 12-13.

Two of the most anticipated matchups include Tucker against Stephenson on Friday, Aug. 12 and Martin Luther King Jr. against Cedar Grove on Saturday, Aug. 13.

Tucker, a Class AAAA state semifinalist in 2010, and perennial region title contender Stephenson meet at 7 p.m. at Hallford Stadium. Stephenson already has 11 players committed to Division 1 colleges and could have as many as five more in the months to come. Tucker is led by a pair of D1 commits as they head into the season.

Martin Luther King and Cedar Grove clash at 7 p.m. at Panthersville
Stadium on Saturday night. The game will feature two of the top
quarterbacks in the state in MLK's Jonquel Dawson and Cedar Grove's
Johnathan McCrary. Dawson threw for DeKalb County records 3,611 yards and 41 touchdowns last year as a junior as well as surpassing the career passing mark with a 5,383 yards. McCrary, a sophomore in 2010, also threw for over 3,000 yards in 2010 (3,031) and added 24 passing touchdowns.
