Football Recap: Tucker Knocks Off M.L. King

Shelley, Farrar lead Tucker past M.L. King 60-34 in region play.

Yaquis “Duke” Shelley scored four touchdowns to lead the No. 1 ranked Tucker Tigers to a 60-34 Region 6-AAAAA victory over the Martin Luther King Jr. Lions at Hallford Stadium on Friday night.

Shelley seemed to be everywhere against the Lions as he struck on the first play from the line of scrimmage by intercepting a Roland Rivers pass and returning it 30 yards for a touchdown to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead and they would never trail in the game.

Shelley would score on a 43-yard pass from quarterback Joseph Farrar, who accounted for three touchdowns himself in the game, and added a 78-yard
kickoff return in the first half as the Tigers built a 30-20 halftime lead.

Farrar also connected for a 27-yard scoring toss to Raquan Rush and Eric Webber, who had 10 points kicking on the night to move into 13th on the DeKalb County season points kicking list with 65points, hit a 33 yard field goal as the half ended for the 10-pointn lead.

Rivers, who threw for 438 yards and four touchdowns in the game, connected with Romello Shumake (63 yards) and Raylan Elzy (14 yards) on touchdown passes and Jamel Smith had seven-yard run to keep the Lions in striking distance. Tucker extended the lead to 39-20 on a safety and Shelley’s second kick return (68 yards) following the safety to start the second half.

The Lions would come back within 34-39 with 9:17 to play as Rivers hit Dwane Taylor for a 15 yard score and connected on a perfectly set up screen against the all-out rush of the Tigers for 54 yards to Robert Pritchett.

The Tigers would answer with three touchdowns in the next six minutes on a Dominick Sanders 27 yard run, a 22 yard pass from Farrar to Nekyle Lundie, and Farrar added a 26 yard run to make the final of 60-34.
