Football Preview: Tucker Goes Against Stephenson

CSS set to televise battle of Class AAAAA No. 1 and No. 2.

The No. 1 ranked Tucker Tigers and No. 2 ranked Stephenson Jaguars go head-to-head in one of the most anticipated games in Region 6-AAAAA in a CSS televised game on Friday night at 8:00 in Clarkston’s Hallford Stadium.

Both teams come into the game with 5-0 records overall and 4-0 atop the Region 6-AAAAA standings. The winner keeps its No. 1 seed hopes in its own hands.

The game will also be broadcast on 680theFan as the two DeKalb County traditional playoff powers meet for just the second time in the history of
the schools.

Stephenson leads the short series 1-0 following its 13-6 victory a year ago. The Jaguars jumped to a 13-0 lead and held of the Tigers by forcing a fumble and running out the clock as the Tigers were driving for a potential tying score.

Both teams have defeated fellow Region 6-AAAAA foes Arabia Mountain, Dunwoody and Lakeside on the season on the way to setting up this matchup of the top two ranked teams.

In other key Region 6-AAAAA action Arabia Mountain (2-3, 1-3) travels to Lakewood Stadium in Atlanta to take on region co-leader Mays (4-1, 4-0) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. while Dunwoody (1-4, 1-3) goes for a second consecutive region victory as the Wildcats host the Martin Luther King Lions (4-1, 3-1) at North DeKalb on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Region 6A-AAAA sub region co-leaders Marist (3-2, 1-0), Lithonia (2-3, 1-0) and Chamblee (4-1, 1-0) plays to stay atop the standings.

Lithonia entertains Marist in a 5:15 p.m. game at Hallford Stadium before the big Stephenson-Tucker tussle with the winner remaining in the lead in the sub region standings.

Chamblee needs a victory to keep pace with the Marist-Lithonia winner as they entertain Columbia (2-3, 0-1) which looks to get back in the playoff hunt with a win.

Cedar Grove (5-1, 2-0) goes for its third consecutive Region 6-AAA victory as the Saints take on McNair (1-4, 0-1) in a 7:30 p.m. game at Panthersville on Friday. Cedar Grove looks to keep pace with St. Pius and Blessed Trinity in the region standings.
