By Mark Brock
Region 6-AAAAA is taking the week off which leaves just 10 DeKalb County high school football teams in action on Friday night.
A key Region 6-AAA game is set for Panthersville on Friday at 7:30 p.m. as surprising Towers (4-1, 0-1) tries to bounce back from its loss to St. Pius last weekend takes on Cedar Grove (4-1, 1-0). Towers has won four games for the first time since 2009 and is looking for its first non-losing season since that playoff season.
Cedar Grove needs a win to keep pace in the Region 6-AAA standings after knocking off previously undefeated Decatur 27-3 last Friday night. The Saints lead the series 3-11-1 over Towers following a 66-8 win a year ago.
Region 6-AAAA returns to action after a week off as Lithonia (1-3) takes on Stone Mountain (2-2) in a 7:30 p.m. contest at Avondale Stadium with the winner getting a leg up to start the run to the playoffs. Lithonia leads the all-time series between the teams 21-14-1, including last season’s 34-20 win.
Druid Hills (2-2, 1-0) tries to get on track in Region 2-AAAAAA following its loss to No. 4 Lovejoy last weekend as the Red Devils entertain Luella (2-3, 0-1) in a 8 p.m. game at Adams Stadium. Luella lost a tough 35-34 decision to Alcovy in region play a week ago. Luella won last year’s contest at Luella.
