Dewayne Harris Drafted by Dallas Cowboys

Finishes career at East Carolina, becomes latest area native to play pro ball.

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Tucker High School alum and Stone Mountain native Dewayne Harris was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round of this year’s NFL draft, No. 176 overall.

A wide receiver at East Carolina University, Harris said he needs to work on his over-the-shoulder catching and deep ball grabs. Speaking in a conference call with Dallas media, he also mentioned he’s open to playing special teams if needed.

“I’m a guy they can count on to step in the game anytime,” he said. “I’m going in and fighting for my job, fighting for my position.”

Harris caught a single-season record 101 receptions for 1,123 yards in 2010. He also set school records in career receptions (238) and receiving yards (3,001).

At Tucker, he led the Tigers to a Regional 6-AAAA title in 2005 as a quarterback.

Other Tucker alums to have played in the NFL include Asher Allen, Patrick Pass, Thomas Brown and Brandon Lang.
