DeKalb Sports: Outdoor Practice Canceled

The county ceases outdoor training during brutal heatwave.

The DeKalb County School System has canceled all outdoor activities for today, Aug. 3, and is telling schools to be very careful before planning any further training outside. 

Mark Brock, Information Officer for the school system's athletic department, said in a statement: "All planned outdoor activities should be conducted inside an air-conditioned and well-ventilated area when the Heat Index rises to 103 degrees or higher."

Brock added that the department will continue monitoring the weather and heat index on a daily basis and will ends updates to inform schools of any further changes.

This comes a day after Forest Jones, 16, an athlete in Henry County, was pronounced dead after suffering from heat stroke, according to doctors at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
