Update: DeKalb Schools Volleyball - State Playoff Preview

Tucker plays North Paulding on Thursday at 6 p.m.

The 2012 GHSA Volleyball State Playoffs begin on Wednesday and Thursday with five DeKalb County teams participating in first round action.

The Class AAAA playoffs get underway on Wednesday (Oct. 17) with two DeKalb teams playing. Chamblee (21-17), the Area 5-AAAA No. 2, seed hosts Alexander at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Bulldogs reached the finals of the 5-AAAA tournament to earn a host role.

Redan (23-7) went 3-1 in the area tournament to earn the No. 3 seed after defeating Grady for the second time in the tournament consolation finals. The Lady Raiders must go on the road to Carrollton (24-8-1) in first round play in a match set for 6 p.m.

The Class AAAAA plays begin on Thursday (Oct. 18) and includes three DeKalb County teams. The Lakeside Lady Vikings (26-6) won the Area 6-AAAAA title and No. 1 seed and hosts Region 5 No. 4 seed Lithia Springs at 6:30 p.m.

Lakeside faces Lithia Springs for the second consecutive season in the playoffs. Lakeside upended Lithia Springs in the second round a year ago to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time in school history.

Dunwoody, the Area 6-AAAAA runner-up to Lakeside, plays host to Area 5 No. 3 seed Hiram (30-9) at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Wildcats (20-22) defeated Tucker in the area semifinals to earn the No. 2 seed and host role.

Tucker (28-14) will travel to Area 5 No. 2 seed North Paulding (28-2) in first round action. The Tigers are just two wins away from Coach Robin Potter’s 200th career victory. Potter stands at 198-175-2 for her career in DeKalb.

Tucker (28-14) at North Paulding (28-2), 6 p.m.
