DeKalb Schools Soccer: ITP Teams Sweep All-Star Games

The second annual DeKalb County Soccer Coaches Association All-Star games played Saturday at Silverbacks Park.

The second annual DeKalb County Soccer Coaches Association All-Star games
went to the Inside the Perimeter (ITP) teams in a pair of shutouts over the Outside the Perimeter (OTP) teams on Saturday at Silverbacks Park.

The ITP girls’ coached by Chamblee’s Curtis Engsberg controlled the ball for most of the game against the OTP squad on the way to a 3-0 victory to give the ITP a 2-0 lead in the girls’ All-Star series.

Lakeside freshman Ashlee Graham put on a clinic in goal for the ITP team as she played the entire 70 minutes without allowing a goal while collecting eight saves in the shutout victory.

The ITP’s first goal was a Lakeside team effort as junior Callie Bader found sister and senior Summer Bader for a 1-0 lead with 10 minutes gone in the game.

A pair of Chamblee seniors teamed up to give the ITP a 2-0 lead just before halftime as game MVP Claudia Holbrook connected on a score with an assist from teammate Lydia Morrow.

Columbia freshman Brea Butler made the final of 3-0 with about 10 minutes to play as she took a pass from Chamblee senior Nikki Ruffin which was the fourth of four passes down the field by the ITP team as the group showed excellent teamwork getting down the field.

Southwest DeKalb’s Ashley Adams spent 30 minutes in goal for the OTP team
without allowing a goal while turning away five shots on goal.

The boys’ game was a tight game throughout with the ITP putting the game away in the final minute for a 2-0 victory and a 1-0-1 lead in the series.

ITP’s 1-0 lead came on the back of a goal by Chamblee junior Christian Villalaba from the top of the box into the far corner of the net on an assist from Cross Keys senior Luis De Jesus.

OTP continued to play tough in the physical game and split possession time
throughout.

ITP finally put the game away with less than a minute to play as Chamblee freshman Jose Perez took a pass on a break-away and beat the OTP goalie for game-clinching goal.

Three goalies combined on the shutout for the ITP squad as McNair junior Devante Grimes (22 minutes, 2 saves), Lakeside junior Susjed Garcia (27 minutes, 3 saves) and Cross Keys senior Danny Cruz (21 minutes, 2 saves)
deflected all the OTP scoring opportunities.

Miller Grove senior Jamari Roberson and Dunwoody senior Gary LaRose combined for 29 scoreless minutes in goal and three saves for the OTP team while Tucker junior was in goal for 34 minutes with three saves and one goal allowed.

Lakeside senior Austin Smith was named the game’s MVP for his overall play
throughout the game for the ITP team coached by Lakeside’s Rick Barbe.
