The No. 6 ranked Stephenson Jaguars extended their winning streak against neighborhood rival Parkview to three consecutive victories with a come-from-behind 14-3 victory on Friday night at Hallford Stadium.

The two teams had battled to a 0-0 tie at the half, but Parkview marched down the field to open the third quarter to take the lead on a 28-yard field goal by Zach Kammer with 6:21 left in the period.

Parkview was driving on its next possession when the Jaguar defense forced a fumble at the Stephenson 29. The Jaguars wasted little time taking advantage as Florida commit Mike Davis made three cutbacks against the Panther defense and outraced the defenders 71 yards to the end zone. Wisdom Nzidee tacked on the point after try to give Stephenson the lead at 7-3 with 2:26 left in the third quarter.

Stephenson’s Demarcus Sweat, who had three receptions for 69 yards in the game, provided the next play following another defensive stop by the Jaguars. Parkview was forced to punt and Sweat drifted back to his own 22-yard line on the driving kick, hauled it in and headed up field and cut left to the sideline racing past the defenders for a 78-yard punt return for the score. Nzidee made it 14-3 with just 26 seconds left in the quarter.

The Jaguars offense used ball control to use up eight minutes of the
fourth quarter and the defense held Parkview without a first down in two fourth-quarter possessions.

Stephenson (1-0) faces off with Class AAA No. 9 ranked Cedar Grove (1-0), a 40-19 winner over Veterans next Friday in a 7:30 p.m. game at Hallford Stadium.

The Saints jumped out to a 20-6 first quarter lead on Veterans on the way to the 40-19 victory at Panthersville on Friday night.

The Stone Mountain Pirates improved to 2-0 on the season behind the play of All-State linebacker Markuss Eligwe in a 38-20 win over Westside-Macon on Friday night at Adams Stadium.

Eligwe returned a fumbled kickoff for a touchdown and also threw a 60-yard touchdown pass as the Pirates jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead on the way to victory.

Lithonia won its season opener in a wild 42-41 shootout with Redan as the two teams went into overtime before the game was decided. Miller Grove and Chamblee also won their Region 6-AAAA season openers on Saturday as Lakeside fell 33-0 to Miller Grove and Chamblee knocked off Carver-Atlanta 17-14 on the road at Grady.
