Southwest DeKalb travels to Marist for Region 6-AAAA showdown

The Southwest DeKalb Panthers (2-1) go on the road Friday to face the No. 9 ranked Marist War Eagles (2-1) in a Region 6-AAAA that could decide the pecking order for the region’s playoff berths.

Both teams enter the game with a loss to Region 6-AAAA leader and No. 1 ranked Tucker (3-0) and trail the Tigers and undefeated Mays by one game in the standings.

Southwest DeKalb is coming off a 57-0 victory over Douglass while the War Eagles are coming off a 28-3 win over previously unbeaten Chamblee.

The No. 9 ranked Martin Luther King Jr. Lions (2-0) opens its Region
2-AAAAA schedule by hosting Westlake (2-1) on Friday night at Hallford
Stadium in a game scheduled for an 8 p.m. kickoff.

The Lions are coming off a 31-14 win over Collins Hill while Westlake lost by a score of 21-10 to No. 4 ranked Colquitt County.

Saturday night’s games feature a battle of undefeated teams as Miller
Grove (3-0) travels to Atlanta’s Grady Stadium to take on Mays (3-0) at 4 p.m. The pair are two of three remaining undefeated teams in Region 6-AAAA. The winner moves a step closer to securing a playoff berth and keeps pace with No. 1 ranked Tucker.

Cedar Grove (1-2), a preseason ranked team with All-State candidate in quarterback Jonathan McCrary, hosts undefeated Stone Mountain (3-0) in the Region 5B-AAA opener for both teams. The game is slated for a 7:30 kickoff at Hallford Stadium.
