DeKalb Schools Football: Tucker Travels to Northside for Semifinals

Tigers go on the road to No. 2 Northside at Warner Robins.

The game many people were looking forward to has come to be as the No. 1 ranked Tucker Tigers travel to Warner Robins to take on the No. 2 ranked Northside Eagles on Friday night at 7:30 in the Class AAAA high school state semifinals.

Tucker (13-0) survived a tough test last week in rallying from a 14-0 deficit and holding on to defeat the Flowery Branch Falcons 42-34 in the state quarterfinals.

The Tigers were led by quarterback Juwaan Williams three rushing touchdowns and  the running back duo of Jordan Landry (13 carries, 131 yards, 1 TD) and Yusuf Minor (12 carries, 100 yards, 1 TD). The Tiger defense which gave up 141 yards rushing in the first half held the Falcons to just 32 yards on the ground in the second half and came up with the big plays when needed to seal the game. Defensive end Josh Dawson’s intense pressure on fourth down forced Flowery Branch quarterback Kanier Coker to throw an incomplete pass to preserve the win late in the fourth quarter.

Northside (13-0) is coming of a 36-8 victory over Tri-Cities last week and won the coin toss to host the state semifinal game.

The two teams last met in the 2007 state semifinals played at the Georgia Dome in a game won by Northside 31-28 on the way to the Eagles second consecutive state title. Tucker had led the game 28-7 at one point, but could not hold off the Eagles.
