DeKalb Schools Football: Playoff Preview

Tigers and Lions and looking to advance to third round of playoffs.

The No. 1 ranked Tucker Tigers and the No. 3 ranked Martin Luther King Jr. Lions will be hosting a second round of high school playoff games on Friday.

The Tigers (11-0) are coming off a 44-14 first round victory and will host the Griffin Bears (9-2) in a 7:30 p.m. game on Friday at Adams Stadium.

Griffin opened the Class AAAA playoffs with a high-scoring 47-43 victory over Jonesboro on the road. Griffin reached the playoffs as the No. 3 seed out of Region 3.

Tucker enters the game averaging over 40 points per contest behind the running of juniors Jawaan Williams (quarterback) and running backs Yusuf Minor and Dallas Rivers. Minor had 192 yards rushing in the first round win over Sprayberry.

The M.L. King Lions enter the second round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs to host the defending state champion Brookwood Broncos (8-3) who pulled out a 30-27 overtime victory over Peachtree Ridge last weekend.

The Lions are led by All-State quarterback Jonquel Dawson and a trio of receivers including Georgia commitment Blake Tibbs, Joshua Stanford and Carnell Boyd. The foursome teamed up in the 30-22 victory over Coffee in the first round. Tibbs had a 99-yard kickoff return and Stanford caught two touchdown passes from Dawson and Boyd added another touchdown reception.

The Lions host Brookwood at Hallford Stadium with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
