DeKalb Schools Basketball: SW DeKalb Takes Pair From Tucker

Southwest DeKalb sweeps Region 6-AAAA games against Tucker.

The No. 8 ranked Southwest DeKalb Panthers needed a late three-pointer and a pair of free throws from Justin Holliman to seal a 68-63 victory over the Tucker Tigers on Tuesday night at Southwest DeKalb.

The Panthers (8-7) had taken a 59-50 lead with 4:22 to play in the game on a drive and layup by William “Shaq” Goodwin.

The Tigers (10-5) would not quit and trailing 61-54 with 2:34 to play got a basket by Miles Harris to start a 6-0 run that would cut the Panthers’ lead to 61-60 with 1:39 to play.

A shooting foul and a technical aided the cause to allow Tucker to score four points, the last a basket by Darrien Christian to pull within one.

Holliman was left open at the top of the key and buried a three-pointer to push the lead back to 64-60 with 1:10 to play. A drive by Kadarius Turner for a layup and then Holliman’s free throws with 13 seconds to play sealed the 68-63 win.

William Goodwin led Southwest DeKalb with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Jordan Price hit for 18 points and Kadarius Turner finished with 10.

Daniel Woodard led the Tigers with 18 points and Joseph Ledbetter added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
