DeKalb Schools Basketball: Middle School Tournament Moving to Quarterfinals

Middle School Basketball Tournaments down to Sweet 16.

The 12th Annual DeKalb County Middle School Basketball Championships are down to the Sweet 16 teams as quarterfinal action begins on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at four sites around the county.

There were two upsets in the first round of the boys’ championship as teams got whittled down to the Elite 8. Peachtree (6-9) pulled of a 67-58 upset of Chapel Hill (12-3) on Saturday in one of the upsets while Redan (9-5) upended Chamblee (10-5) 40-29.

Division A title winner Champion (13-1) advanced with a 58-16 win over Stephenson (6-10) which had advanced into the first round with a play-in 54-23 win over McNair (2-13).

Division D champ Lithonia (13-2) advanced with a 50-33 victory over Henderson (7-10) which had won its play-in game 51-26 over Bethune (3-12).

Druid Hills entered the first round as the Division C champion and improved to 14-1 overall with a 32-25 victory over Salem (7-10) that had won 50-46 over Tucker in its play-in game.

Cedar Grove (10-5), the Division B champion, knocked off Sequoyah (0-14) 52-14 to advance into the quarterfinals.

The defending champions Miller Grove Lady Wolverines (15-0) extended their two season winning streak to 32 games with a 53-10 win over Sequoyah (0-14) as the girls’ tournament held to form heading into the quarterfinal round. Miller Grove advances to face Stephenson (12-3), a 48-19 winner over Chamblee (8-6).

Division A title holder Champion (14-1) defeated Bethune (5-11) by a score of 41-13 to advance and face Tucker (10-4) which defeated Redan 32-19.

Peachtree (11-4), the Division C champion, defeated Salem (2-14) 51-9 in advancing to take on Cedar Grove (9-6), a 52-36 winner over Freedom (7-8).

Division D champion Chapel Hill (13-1) defeated Druid Hills (4-12) 47-14 and takes on Columbia (11-4) which defeated Stone Mountain 40-29 to advance.
