DeKalb Schools Basketball: Frost Gets Third All-Star Victory

Quiana Tucker, from Tucker, finished with 10 points to lead the Breedlove All-Stars.

Columbia girls’ head basketball coach Chantay Frost saw her team rally from a four-point halftime deficit to give her a third consecutive coaching victory in the DeKalb County All-Star Basketball Classic girls’ matchup 64-51 over the Breedlove All-Stars.

The Breedlove All-Stars coached by Renee Breedlove of Miller Grove opened a 34-30 lead at the half behind eight points from Quiana Tucker of Tucker and six points from Chamblee’s Breana McDonald.

Frost’s team then played the kind of defense in the second half her Columbia teams have displayed in winning two state championships in the past three seasons.

Breedlove’s squad was limited to half its first half total of 34 points while the balanced scoring and timely free throw shooting of Frost’s squad put 34 points on the board in the second half.

Columbia’s Ebony Johnson who had a game-high 11 points and Stephenson’s
Joylyn Stroud each had six points in the big second half for Frost’s All-Stars.

Stephenson’s Jerusha James and Martin Luther King’s Tenisha Wallace were both three of four from the free-throw line in the second half to help complete the rally.

Columbia’s Zuri Frost finished with six points in the game and was named Most Valuable Player for her floor leadership and defense.

Quiana Tucker finished with 10 points to lead the Breedlove All-Stars.

The boys’ All-Star Classic was a high scoring affair as both teams broke the century in the 124-101 victory by White’s All-Stars over McKinney’s All-Stars.

Miller Grove point guard Christian Houston hit seven three-points on the way to a game-high 24 points and the MVP selection to lead Miller Grove Coach Sharman White’s All-Stars to victory.

Houston hit four three-pointers on the way to 15 first-half points as White’s All-Stars held a slim 52-50 lead at the half.

Columbia forward Chris Horton hit for 10 of his 23 points in the game during the first half to help McKinney’s All-Stars stay within the two-point margin at the half.

Martin Luther King forward De’Aires Tate hit for 14 of his 22 points in the second half and Houston added nine more points on three treys as the White All-Stars began to pull away.

Horton continued his strong performance for McKinney’s All-Stars in the second half hitting for 13 points, including a three-pointer, and Columbia teammate forward Jarmal Reid, who had four three-pointers in the game hit for eight of his 14 points in the second half. Stephenson guard Derek Harper, a 1,000 career point club member, hit for eight of his 10 points in the second half.

Redan’s Maurice Mays and Miller Grove’s Brandon Morris joined Houston and Tate in double figures for the White’s All-Stars with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
