DeKalb Middle Schools Football: Week Three Preview

Region play starts for middle schools this weekend.

The 2012 DeKalb County middle school football season moves into region play for the next four weeks beginning with the games on Saturday, Sept. 15. Teams will be jockeying for the two playoff berths from each region.

Peachtree and Lithonia are both 2-0 on the season heading into their region opening clash at Adams Stadium at 10:30 on Saturday.

Peachtree has allowed just eight points in wins over Druid Hills (28-0) and Tucker (22-8) in starting off the season 2-0.

Lithonia is yet to allow a point in their 2-0 start with identical 30-0 wins over Renfroe and Henderson.

Two big Region 4 games are on tap as Freedom (2-0) takes on Stone Mountain
(1-1) and Miller Grove (1-1) and Chapel Hill (1-1) this weekend.

Freedom is coming off a 20-0 win over Redan (0-2) last Saturday and faces a Stone Mountain (1-1) team trying to rebound from a 22-6 loss to Columbia last week. The pair meets up at Avondale Stadium at 9 a.m.

Miller Grove and Chapel Hill are both coming off Week 2 victories as they line up against each other at Hallford Stadium at 9 a.m. Miller Grove defeated Chamblee 36-8 last Saturday while Chapel Hill knocked off Salem 26-20.

The Stephenson Jaguars are on an 11-game winning streak following their 44-13 win over Druid Hills last Saturday. Stephenson (2-0) went undefeated a year ago at 9-0 and following the win over Druid Hills (0-2) have not lost since a 24-16 loss to Miller Grove in the first round of the 2010 playoffs. The 2-0 start in 2012 includes a season opening 14-8 win over Tucker.

Bethune, the runner-up to Stephenson in 2011, is also off to a 2-0 start following a 30-14 win over Cedar Grove (1-1) and has won 18 consecutive regular season games. The last regular season loss for Bethune was a 14-0 decision to Miller Grove on Sept. 12, 2009.

Miller Grove evened its record at 1-1 on the season with a 38-8 win over Chamblee (1-1) behind the play of a tough defense and backs Stanley Taylor and Delrick Franklin. The defense caused two turnovers and blocked a punt while limiting Chamblee to just eight points. Taylor rushed for over 100 yards and two touchdowns while Franklin added two touchdowns of his own in the win.

Lithonia’s Deontae Jones scored on touchdown runs of 65 and 35 yards and Courtney Lott scored on a 90 yard run to lead Lithonia to a 30 win over Henderson. Lithonia is 2-0 heading into region play this Saturday.
