Middle Schools Football Week Four Preview

Bethune takes on Tucker in Region 1 play on Saturday.

Bethune (2-0) and Stephenson (2-0) are coming off bye weeks last weekend as they head into their first region games on Saturday.

Bethune (2-0) takes on Tucker (1-2) in Region 1 play at Adams Stadium on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Tucker is 1-0 in region play after defeating Henderson 28-20 in Week 3. Bethune owns wins over Miller Grove (28-0) and Cedar Grove (20-14) this season and is going for its 19th consecutive regular season victory.

Stephenson (2-0) takes on Cedar Grove (2-1, 1-0) in Region 2 action in a 9 a.m. game at Hallford Stadium on Saturday. The Jaguars are the defending county champions and hold an 11-game win streak heading into their region opener. Cedar Grove is coming off a 28-0 victory over Renfroe in its region opener last weekend.

Peachtree (3-0, 1-0) puts its undefeated record on the line against Redan (1-2, 1-0) in Region 3 play on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Avondale Stadium. Peachtree defeated Lithonia 7-0 in a battle of undefeated teams last weekend to ope nregion action. Redan’s region opener was a 22-6 win over McNair.

Champion (3-0) is the only other undefeated time at this point in the season and is taking its bye week on Saturday.

Region 3 got off to a fast start this week as undefeated Peachtree and Lithonia went head-to-head to get a jump in the region standings. Peachtree came out on top with a tough 7-0 victory to remain undefeated at 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the region. Lithonia fell to 2-1 and 0-1 on the season. Jeff Throp scored the winning touchdown on a screen pass for 40 yards.

Stone Mountain got off to a good start in Region 4 with a big 20-6 win over previously undefeated Freedom last weekend. Pirate running backs Steven Finney and Jabari Jacobs combined for 210 yards rushing in the game. Finney had an 85-yard run for a score and Jacobs added a touchdown on a 65-yard run.

Stone Mountain (2-1, 1-0) also got a pair of touchdowns from Jaywaun Davis who caught a pass from quarterback Devonn Gibbons which turned into an 80-yard scoring play and also scored on an 8 yard run. Freedom is 2-1 overall and 0-1 in region play following the loss.

Miller Grove matched Stone Mountain atop the Region 4 standings with a convincing 36-0 victory over Chapel Hill.

The Wolverine defense shut down Chapel Hill behind the play of Franklin Smith and Robert Johnson who combined for four sacks and a forced fumble and Joel France who had three tackles for a loss. Roderick Harper added a pair of interceptions to aid the shutout performance.

Stanley Taylor led the offense for Miller Grove (2-1, 1-0) with 100+ yards rushing including touchdown runs of 45 and 50 yards behind the blocking of a line led by William Johnson who had five pancake blocks in the game. Delrick Franklin rushed 35 yards for one touchdown and three pass of 35 yards to Jalen Stuckey and 5 yards to Davion Ross. Keson Donaldson also had a three-yard run for a touchdown.

Chapel Hill fell to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in region play.

Champion (3-0, 1-0) remained undefeated heading into its bye-week with a 58-0 win over Sequoyah.
