DeKalb Football: This Week's Preview and Schedule

Tucker, SW DeKalb schools rivalry kicks off on Thursday telecast.

The second week of high school football includes 17 DeKalb teams hitting the gridiron and is highlighted by the Region 6-AAAA clash between the Tucker Tigers and Southwest DeKalb Panthers set for television on Thursday night by WSB and PlayOn Sports.

The game set for 7:30 p.m. at Hallford Stadium in Clarkston opens the Region 6-AAAA season for both teams as they look to get their march to a playoff berth on the right foot.

The Tigers enter the game ranked No.1 in Class AAAA after a 13-1 and Class AAAA semifinal appearance last fall. The Panthers are also coming off a 2010 playoff berth and look to knock the Tigers off the top spot. The game can be seen on Comcast channel 248 or Charter 126 in the Atlanta Metro Area.

Stephenson plays host to Parkview in their neighborhood rivalry on Friday at Hallford Stadium as the 7:30 p.m. game is set to be available on Comcast On Demand following its being played.

The Jaguars with 11 players already committed to Football Bowl Series
teams (formerly Division I) is looking for that elusive state championship for Coach Ron Gartrell. Stephenson enters the season as the No. 7 ranked team in Class AAAAA and 32nd ranked team in the country by the ESPN FAB 50 poll.

Parkview which was one of the dominant teams during the 2000-2008 time span that including a pair of state titles is trying to regain that reputation with a season opening win over the No. 7 ranked Jaguars.

Dunwoody hosts Mays on Friday at North DeKalb Stadium in Chamblee in a Region 6-AAAA season opening clash at 7:30 p.m.

The Wildcats won six of their last seven games in 2010 but came up short for a playoff berth that went to Mays due to Mays’ season opening victory over the Wildcats. The game is sure to be a crucial part of both teams’ playoff hopes once again in 2011.
