DeKalb All-Star Soccer Games Set for Monday

The third annual games are scheduled for Clarkston's Hallford Stadium on May 20.

The third annual DeKalb County All-Star Soccer games will be played at James. R. Hallford Stadium in Clarkston on Monday, May 20.

The two games (girls and boys) match the top DeKalb County soccer players from Inside the Perimeter schools vs. Outside the Perimeter schools.

The girls game kicks off the event at 5:30 p.m. as the OTP squad tries to break the ITP’s two game winning streak.

The OTP squad is coached by Dunwoody’s Edgar Flores and assisted by Tricia Silvera and features some of the top scorers in the county including Southwest DeKalb senior Kristen Peagler who set the season scoring record for the county with 55 goals in 2013.

Peagler is joined on the team by the county’s second leading scorer in Tucker junior Daijah De Ramus (42) and the fifth leading scorer in Arabia Mountain’s Jenee Neil. Goalies Haley Johnson of Dunwoody (1.24 goals allowed average) and Erika Seda of Arabia Mountain (2.25 goals allowed average) are set to defend the nets.

The ITP team is coached by Lakeside’s Shane Maulin and assisted by Chamblee’s Curti Engsberg and Trey Palmer of Druid Hills.

Maulin gets to coach his sophomore goaltender Ashlee Graham (0.27 goals allowed average in 1205 minutes) who returns after playing 70 minutes in the All-Star game last year as a freshman without allowing a goal and collecting eight saves.

The ITP offense is led by Cross Keys’ senior Yesenia Velazquez (21 goals, 12 assists), Chamblee senior Ally Jones (20 goals) and Chamblee junior Louis McGirt (18 goals, 10 assists). The ITP has built its 2-0 lead in the series with a 4-1 win in 2011 and a 3-0 shutout a year ago.

Lakeside’s Ben Smith leads the ITP team and will be assisted by Thomas Bodnar of Druid Hills and Andrew Goodman of Clarkston as the squad tries to extend its lead in the series to 2-0-1.

The offense is led by Lakeside senior George Gavrielides (16 goals, 12 assists) and Cross Keys senior Jose Soto (12 goals) and sophomore Alan Marin (12 goals). Cross Keys sophomore goalie Alexis Briceno brings the second leading goals allowed average of 0.92 after serving 1,134 minutes in the net for the Indians.

The OTP led by Coach David Dacosta of Tucker with assistants Mike Fleming of Dunwoody and Doug Dakin of Stone Mountain looks to get in the win column. The group has the county’s leading goalie in Dunwoody senior Josef Frazier, 0.84 goals allowed average in 955 minutes played, to turn to in the net.

OTP also brings four playes to eclipse the 20 goals scored mark this season led by Stephenson SR Emmanuel Manning (25) along with Tucker senior Josiah Saydee (23 goals), Dunwoody junior Rodrigo Perierra (21) and Dunwoody freshman Josh Bronstroph (21).

The ITP All-Stars rallied for a 2-2 tie in the inaugural game of the series in 2011 and used a 2-0 shutout to take the series lead in 2012.

Admission is $5 per person.
