Commitments Highlight DeKalb Football Media Day

Tucker takes on Southwest DeKalb on August 25 in a televised game.

The excitement of high school football practice opening next Monday (Aug. 1) was fueled last night as DeKalb County Schools hosted its annual Football Media Day at James R. Hallford Stadium in Clarkston.

Eighteen media members representing 12 outlets showed up to see some of the top players in DeKalb County, including 21 players who are verbally committed to Division I colleges as they enter their senior seasons.

One of the 21 commitments made his announcement at the end of the coaches segments as Lithonia offensive lineman Joe Harris (6-4, 290) announced in front of the crowd of athletes, coaches, parents and media members his intention of furthering his education and football career at the University of South Carolina. Harris is considered the top offensive line prospect in the state of
Georgia.

Stephenson has 11 of the 22 committed prospects and has the possibility of five more to commit in the near future. Other schools represented at Media Day with commits include Tucker (2), Marist (2), Columbia (2), Martin Luther King Jr. (1), Dunwoody (1), and Stone Mountain (1).

Football practice begins on Monday, Aug. 1 and the first 2011 games will be played Friday, Aug. 19 as Druid Hills hosts South Atlanta at Adams Stadium and Stone Mountain travels to Grady Stadium to take on Maynard Jackson High.

A full slate of games follows beginning on Thursday, Aug. 25 and continuing through Saturday, Aug. 26. Tucker takes on Southwest DeKalb on Aug. 25 in a game set to be televised.
