Big Week Ahead for DeKalb Footballers

Battle of the Borders is also on the Week Two schedule.

Georgia and Florida high school football pride is on the line on Saturday as Hallford Stadium in Clarkston plays host to a Georgia-Florida doubleheader beginning at 5:15 p.m.

New head football coach Cortez Allen leads the Class AAAAA No. 5 ranked Martin Luther King Jr. Lions against the proud Florida high school football program of the Blanche Ely Mighty Tigers in the Battle of the Borders opener at 5:15 p.m.

Longtime Stephenson head coach Ron Gartrell leads his Class AAAAA No. 3 ranked Jaguars against Miami powerhouse Norland at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 in advance at your local DeKalb County Chick-Fil-A, online and at the schools. Tickets at the gate will be $12.

The Redan Raiders open the 2013 season on Thursday night (Aug. 29) at Troup County in a game moved from its originally scheduled Friday kickoff.

The Chamblee Bulldogs (0-0) and Dunwoody Wildcats (0-0) renew their neighborhood rivalry on Friday at North DeKalb Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Dunwoody will be looking to knot the series at eight wins each. Chamblee
took an 8-7 lead in the series with a 38-7 win last season.

New McNair Mustang head coach Shelton Carleton takes his squad to Cobb County in his first game at the helm to take on a 1-0 Osborne Cardinal team. Osborne opened the season with a 25-14 win over Chapel Hill this past weekend.

Another new DeKalb County head football coach also goes on the road to Cobb County as new Southwest DeKalb head man Michael Tanks begins his tenure as the replacement for DeKalb County’s all-time winningest coach Buck Godfrey against Pebblebrook.

Mark Adams returns to the sidelines as a head coach in DeKalb County for the third time as he leads the Druid Hills Red Devils against the Clarkston Angoras who dropped their opener to Arabia Mountain. The pair meets at Adams Stadium at 8 p.m.
