Viewfinder: Tucker High School Signing For Academics

The school launched its first annual Academic Signing Day this week.

The storied history of the Tucker High School football program is well known throughout the state of Georgia. Two football State Championships in the last five years is indicative and validation of this notoriety.

This week Tucker High School launched its first annual Academic Signing Day. β€œI would like to thank Principal Jackson, Ms. Branch, Dr. Simpson, Mr. Futrell, and Mr. Carlton for sharing our vision of honoring the students that work as hard in the classroom as our student athletes work on the sports field,” said Beja Turner. Turner along with several members of the Class of 2013 planned and executed this student activity with the guidance of their teachers and administrators. Β

Turner opened the program with a wonderful welcome quoting a line by the popular Hip Hop artists Drake and Senior Feven Laine followed with a spirit filled inspiration. Then, Mr. Futrell and Mr. Carlton began recognizing more than thirty seniors who have been accepted into various colleges. Most have received partial or full scholarships.

Members of the Class of 2013 honored during the signing day will be matriculating to a myriad of universities, colleges, technical schools, culinary arts training, and various branches of the armed forces. Mr. Jackson and Dr. Simpson provided motivational talks highlighting the superb academic programs at Tucker challenging the undergraduate students in the audience to aspire to excellence.

The ceremony honored more than thirty members of the Class of 2013. Students had an opportunity to raise the baseball caps, t-shirts, and other items representing their respective institutions. Tucker High School in honoring the Academic accomplishments of these students is giving notice that not only are the Tigers a force to be reckoned with on the various sports fields, but most importantly, in the classroom too.
