Tucker High Hosts Basketball Media Day

Inaugural DeKalb County Basketball Media Day set for today.

DeKalb County Schools will host its first ever Basketball Media Day this afternoon, Thursday, Oct. 20 at 4:30 p.m. in the gym.

All 38 programs (girls’ and boys’) are scheduled to appear with coaches introducing some of their top players and discussing the upcoming season with the media and fans.

DeKalb’s previous success with football and baseball media days over the years allowing the media preseason access to coaches and players for interviews and photos at one site contributed to the birth of the Basketball Media Day.

DeKalb County continues to be one of the hotbeds for high school basketball in the state of Georgia with 19 state titles since Cross Keys won the Class AAA boys’ title in 2002 and 32 overall dating back to Clarkston’s Class B boys’ title in 1940.

The county has two current reigning champions in three-time Class AAAA boys’ state champion Miller Grove (2009-11) and two-time Class AAA boy’s state champion Columbia.

The district set a GHSA record with four state championships in one season (2010) as Columbia boys’ and girls’ won the Class AAA state titles (first DeKalb school to win both in one season), Miller Grove won the Class AAAA boys’ title and Southwest DeKalb won the Class AAAA girls’ title.
