Tucker High Seniors Hosting Special Event at Northlake Gardens

A retired teacher, mentor, and counselor who spent her career at Tucker High School is being honored at the assisted living center.

The Tucker High School Class of 2013 is hosting a Senior Prom for residents of the Northlake Gardens Assisted Living & Alzheimer’s Care Center.

This event is being held on Tuesday, April 30, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., and will honor Joyce Walters, former Spanish teacher at Tucker High School and current resident of the Tucker facility. As part of their farewell to the halls of the school, students are giving back to a community which has served them well during their scholastic years.

The students have created A Night Under the Stars for the men and women of the center. With input from the center staff, graduating seniors in the culinary arts program will cater the event, art students will decorate, engineering students will video stream, and student leaders and athletes will escort Northlake residents down the red carpet. Prom activities include crowning of the royal court as well as dancing, food, and family fun.

Paula Drake, Community Relations Director at the center, told Patch: "the event will be themed and the Northlake Gardens staff, our residents, and family members will be present in prom attire and grandeur. We are crowning one of our residents, Joyce Walters, as queen. She is being honored for her true commitment to education and the fact that she scheduled class trips for her students to travel abroad and see the world."

Northlake Gardens is located at 1300 Montreal Road in Tucker.
