Tucker Graduate Eleanor Burden Wins Major Award

The Sally Hull Weltner Award for Scholarship was presented at Oglethorpe University.

Tucker resident Eleanor Elizabeth Burden, a 2013 graduate of Oglethorpe University, was awarded the Sally Hull Weltner Award for Scholarship at the university's commencement ceremony on May 18. Burden is a graduate of Tucker High School and majored in English at Oglethorpe.

This award is given annually in loving memory of Sally Hull Weltner, wife of Dr. Philip Weltner, who was president of Oglethorpe University from 1944-1953. The award honors the student in the graduating class who has attained the highest grade-point average with the greatest number of hours in course work completed at the university. This year the award was presented to two graduating seniors.

Founded in 1835, Oglethorpe University is a leading liberal arts and sciences university which enrolls 1,100 students representing 34 states and 28 countries. Oglethorpe has been named among U.S. News & World Report's Best Liberal Arts Colleges, Forbes' America's Best Colleges, and Princeton Review's Best Southeastern College in its 2012 edition of The Best 376 Colleges.
