Tigers Play for State Title Live on GPB

Broadcasters for the Tucker-Lovejoy game will be Gil Tyree, Trey McDaniel and Dave Hunter.

The Tucker Tigers play for their second Class AAAA state football championship trophy tonight (Friday) at 8 p.m. against Lovejoy at the Georgia Dome.

The No. 1 ranked Tigers are 14-0 on the season for the first time in school history as they face the No. 6 ranked Lovejoy Wildcats who are also 14-0. Tucker defeated Marist 15-3 to capture the 2008 state title.

Tucker advanced to the finals with a hard-fought 17-16 victory over No. 2 and previously undefeated Northside of Warner Robins last week as Justin Rivers returned a fumble 100 yards for the tying touchdown and Steven Duffy was good on the point after kick for the win.

The Tiger defense made two big plays in the final 4:30 of the game to preserve the victory as Jacob Rush had a big stop on fourth down and Juwaan Williams had an interception in the final 28 seconds to seal the victory.

Lovejoy knocked off Warner Robins 21-6 to advance to the state championship game.

The game will be televised live by Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) along with other four state title games at the Georgia Dome this weekend. The games will also be video streamed live on GPB.org/football.

Coverage, which begins today at 4:30 with the Buford-Calhoun game, will include shows from the Dome between games and live championship trophy presentations. The coverage also will include the addition of a motorized camera cart on the sidelines, a 20-foot boom camera and a wireless camera to be taken into the crowd at the Dome.

Broadcasters for the Tucker-Lovejoy game will be Gil Tyree, Trey McDaniel and Dave Hunter.

Complete coverage of the championships will be available live and On Demand at GPB.org/sports. GHSA.tv also will have the games available for On Demand viewing and DVD orders. The games will be rebroadcast on GPB Knowledge, one of GPB's digital channels, from Dec. 12-16.
