Soccer: Tucker, Druid Hills Fall in State Playoffs' Second Round

Tucker finishes 12-6-1 on the season and as the Region 6-AAAAA runner-up.

The 2013 soccer seasons came to an end for the Tucker Tigers and Druid Hills Red Devils with losses in the second round of their respective state playoffs.

The No. 9 ranked Tucker Tigers traveled to No. 6 ranked Allatoona on Wednesday and lost a tight 2-1 decision to the Buccaneers to fall out of the Class AAAAA state playoffs. Tucker finishes 12-6-1 on the season and as the Region 6-AAAAA runner-up.

Druid Hills battled North Cobb to a 0-0 deadlock for 52 minutes before North Cobb scored two goals on the way to a 2-0 victory at Hallford Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Warriors broke the ice with a header into the goal with 28:18 remaining in the game to go up 1-0. Druid Hills got two point blank shots at the 12:35 mark, but could not get them past the North Cobb defenders and goalie.

Red Devils’ goalie John Toulme kept the game within striking distance with a diving save to his right with 9:34 to play. A red card and a yellow card were pulled against the Red Devils with three minutes to play ejecting one Red Devil and forcing Toulme out of the goal and to sit out the ensuing free kick. The kick was again headed into the goal to seal the 2-0 victory for North Cobb.

Druid Hills finished the season at 9-10-0 and as the Region 2-AAAAAA champions.

The No. 7 ranked Lakeside Vikings 14-4-2 found out who their Saturday opponent would be as No. 1 ranked McIntosh (20-0-0) defeated Evans (12-6-0) 6-0 to advance to the Class AAAAA quarterfinals.

McIntosh hosts the game (time to be announced) on Saturday in a rematch of an early season McIntosh 1-0 victory over the Vikings.
