Henderson Middle Student Takes Second Place in State Spelling Bee

Seventh-grader Simola Nayak won $500 and a one-year subscription to Encyclopedia Britannica.

seventh-grader Simola Nayak took second place in the 2011 Georgia Association of Educators State Spelling Bee last week.

To place so high, Simola had to survive 30 rounds and about four hours of competition at Georgia State University on Friday, according to a statement from the DeKalb County School System. Words that she spelled correctly include domiciliary, obdurate and ineradicable.

As runner-up, Simola walked away with a trophy, $500 in cash, a one-year subscription to Encylopedia Brittanica, a $50 amazon.com gift card and a dictionary.
