DeKalb Schools Volleyball: Playoff Changes

Corrected times for today's games after late changes.

Arabia Mountain (8-9) at Locust Grove (30-17), 6:30 p.m.

The 2011 state volleyball playoffs get underway on today as the Arabia Mountain Lady Rams and the Lakeside Lady Vikings carry the DeKalb County flag into the first round.

The Lakeside Lady Vikings improved to 24-8 on the season with a three victory run in the Area 6-AAAA Tournament following an opening game  2-0loss to Lambert to earn the No. 3 seed out of Area 6.

Lakeside defeated Marist, Dunwoody and Lambert in succession all by scores of 2-0 to capture the third seed.

The Lady Vikings travel to Marietta to take on No. 7 ranked Sprayberry (32-10) at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday in first round play in Class AAAA.

Lakeside head coach Angela Thompson reached a coaching milestone this season with her 100th coaching victory on September 16.  The Lady Vikings won a hard fought three set match against Lovett 18-25, 25-23, 15-13 to give their coach her 100th victory.

Thompson moved into fourth on the DeKalb County girls’ volleyball coaching
list with a record of 113-64 as Lakeside prepares to face Sprayberry. Brooke Kline (former Chamblee coach) tops the list at 249-141 and is followed by Tucker’s Robin Potter at 150-143-2 and former Lakeside coach Margie Bowen is third at 117-89.

Arabia Mountain (8-9) won two Area 1-AAA matches to earn its way into the Class AAA state playoffs for the first time in school history. The Lady Rams under Coach Reginald Middlebrooks defeated Grady in the opening round of the Area 1 Tournament before falling to No. 1 ranked Sandy Creek in the second round.

Arabia went on to defeat Grady again to earn their state tournament berth before falling to Drew in the third place game.
