DeKalb Schools Softball: Stats Update and County Leaders

Softball teams gearing up for regional tournaments.

The 2011 fast pitch softball season is winding down as region tournament time nears and DeKalb County has four teams vying for playoff spots with 11 or more wins on the season.

The Lakeside Lady Vikings are 12-1 on the season and 7-1 in Region 6-AAAA with their only loss coming to Marist in a 14-13 extra inning affair earlier this season.

Lakeside is lead at the plate by senior Susanne Bolder who is hitting at a .833 (25-30) clip and junior Marie Collop at .711 (27-38) which place them at first and third, respectively, in the DeKalb batting average rankings.

Collop also tops the RBI list with 34 on the season and Bolden is second with 27 while also scoring 27 and 26 runs, respectively.

Lakeside’s Collop also is in the top four in earned run average for pitchers at 2.66 with a 6-1 record in 29 innings pitched.

At 10-1 and 4-0 in Region 5-AAA, Arabia Mountain is bearing down on a playoff berth with a Tuesday (today, Sept. 20) tussle with Woodward Academy (10-5, 3-0) at 5:30 p.m. to see who can claim the top spot in the sub region.

The Rams have a pair of batters hitting over the .600 mark in juniors India Webbs (.640) and Taylor Montgomery (.625) while being led on the mound by junior Courtney Pringle who is 7-1 on the season with a 1.69 ERA in 29 innings pitched.

The Chamblee Lady Bulldogs, the 2010 Region 6-AAAA runners-up, are 12-4 overall and 7-2 in region play and travel to face region leader Marist (9-5, 7-0) on Thursday (Sept. 22) in a key game for both teams.

Chamblee is led on the mound by senior Jessie Bragg who is 9-1 with a 1.64 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 47 innings. Bragg is also in the DeKalb Top 10 in RBIS with 15 along with teammate Lucy Mason. Bragg and Mason are also hitting over .500 at .543 and .524, respectively.

Juniors Nia Wright (.529) and Kelly Strychalski (.526) along with senior Taylor Harris (.524) are also hitting over .500 while senior Aijah Crockett is one of 12 DeKalb players hitting over .600 as she stands at .609 on the season.

The Tucker Lady Tigers come in at 11-3 overall and 6-1 in Region 6-AAAA but face a tough season ending stretch that includes Marist, Dunwoody and Lakeside.

Tucker is led by junior pitcher Rebecca Adams who is third in the county with a 2.20 ERA and holds an 11-3 record on the season. She also leads the county in strikeouts with 115 in 60 1/3 innings while allowing just 16 walks. She also has contributed 21 RBIs while hitting .514 at the plate.

Senior Bria Smith is hitting .586 and tied for second in RBIs with 24 on the season to lead Tucker on the offensive side. Senior Janea Brooks also has 24 RBIs and is hitting .524 while sophomore Chevon Johnson is hitting .538 with 19 RBIs to give Tucker a solid line up at the plate.
