Another big weekend of high school football comes on Friday as teams vie to stay in playoff contention while playing to improve their state playoff seeding as the regular season goes into the final three weeks.

The first key game comes out of Region 6-AAAA at 5:15 p.m. at North DeKalb as Chamblee hosts Miller Grove in a game featuring a pair of teams tied for fifth at 4-3 overall in the region standings with opportunities to make the state playoffs.

Miller Grove can force a battle for the fourth seed with a victory over Chamblee as the Wolverines face fourth place Southwest DeKalb (5-2) next week. A win by Chamblee would eliminate the Wolverines and the Bulldogs would need some help the final two weeks to earn a playoff bid.

Stephenson (7-0), the No. 4 ranked Class AAAAA squad, plays host to East Coweta (6-1) in a key Region 2-AAAAA game for both teams that is set for broadcast on Georgia Public Broadcast’s Friday Night Game of the Week at 8 p.m. from Hallford Stadium in Clarkston.

The Jaguars want to stay atop the region standings while East Coweta which lost its first game of the season in a 32-21 upset to Westlake last Friday night looks to stay within striking distance of the top spot.  The game can be viewed on Channel 8 in the Atlanta metro area.

The No. 5 ranked Martin Luther King Jr. Lions (7-0, 4-0) travel to Newnan (5-2, 4-0) for a battle of two teams that are part of the three-way tie at the top of Region 2-AAAAA along with Stephenson. The Lions rallied from a 10-point deficit against Newton last week to stay atop the rankings while Newnan defeated Luella 34-20.

The Druid Hills Red Devils (4-4, 3-2) host Washington (4-3, 3-1) in a Region 5A-AAA battle for third in the standings and an opportunity to play for a playoff spot on the final week of the season. Kickoff is set for 7:30 at Adams Stadium on Saturday.
