Key region games abound as teams prepare for Week 6

High school football teams are headed into the halfway point of their
seasons and region games get more important for those coveted playoff berths at the end of the regular season.

The No. 9/7 ranked Martin Luther King Lions (3-0) and No. 5 ranked
Stephenson Jaguars both go on the road in Region 2-AAAAA this weekend. The Lions, 1-0 in region play, travel to face Langston Hughes (2-1) in their second region game of the season while the Jaguars open region action at Westlake (2-2), a 35-14 loser to M.L. King last weekend.

Region 6-AAAA has several teams playing to stay in contention as all
regular season games count in the region standings. Chamblee (2-2) and Southwest DeKalb (2-2) face off at Hallford on Friday with the winner keeping playoff hopes alive.

Dunwoody (2-2) takes on Lakeside (0-4) while trying to keep its playoff
hopes alive after getting off to a 0-2 start on the season and Lithonia
(2-2) meets region co-leader Mays at Grady in the hopes of regaining
momentum towards the playoffs after dropping the last two games.

Miller Grove (3-1) faces Redan (1-3) at Panthersville on Saturday as the Wolverines try to stay within one game of the leaders for one of the
playoff berths.

Region 5B-AAA also has some key matchups as region co-leaders Cedar Grove (2-2) and Columbia (2-2) try to improve to 2-0 in region action in a game at Avondale on Friday. Stone Mountain, 3-1 overall and 0-1 in region, tries to get back on track as they travel to Woodward Academy on Friday night.

The No. 1 ranked Tucker Tigers (4-0) look to stay atop the standings with a trip to Grady on Tuesday, Sept. 27 to take on Douglass (0-4). The game was moved from Saturday due to a conflict with Music Midtown taking place across from Grady Stadium.

Four middle school football teams undefeated after four weeks

Bethune (3-0), Peachtree (3-0), Salem (3-0) and Stephenson (3-0) kept their undefeated records in tack with region opening victories this past weekend.

Stephenson defeated Region 2 foe Champion 48-6 in a battle of previously unbeaten teams while Region 2 participant Salem took a 23-6 victory over Chamblee to remain undefeated.

Bethune moved atop the Region 1 standings with a region opening 55-0 victory over Henderson (0-3) while Region 1 foe Chapel Hill moved into a tie at 1-0 in region play with a convincing 48-7 win over Sequoyah (1-2).

over Redan and is tied atop Region 3 with Columbia (1-1) which ran past McNair (0-3) 47-0.
