DeKalb Schools Cross Country: Region Meets Begin Today
Four DeKalb teams entering regional cross country meets.
The cross country postseason gets underway today, Oct. 22, as the Region Class AAAA cross country meet kicks off a week of region competition.
The 6-AAAA meet has eight DeKalb County schools participating on Saturday with the boys’ race starting at 2:30 p.m. at Marist and the girls’ meet following at 3 p.m.
Chamblee, Dunwoody, Lakeside, Lithonia, Miller Grove, Redan, Southwest DeKalb and Tucker compete with Marist, Mays, Douglass and Carver-Atlanta for the four state championship berths.
The Lakeside Lady Vikings enter the meet ranked sixth overall in the state of Georgia and No. 1 in Class AAAA while host Marist is ranked No. 2 in AAAA. The Lakeside Vikings enter the meet ranked No. 8 in Class AAAA.
On Thursday, Oct. 27, Cross Keys and Clarkston travel to Buford for the 6-AA meets with the boys running at 3:45 p.m. and the girls follow at 4:15 p.m.
The Cross Keys Indians are ranked No. 10 in Class AAA and are looking for a second consecutive trip to the state meet.
The Regions 5-AAA and 2-AAAAA meets are set for Saturday, October 29. Region 5-AAA is being hosted by St. Pius at Mercer University-Atlanta as the girls take off at 8 a.m. with the boys following at 8:30.
Seven DeKalb schools are preparing to compete for the four state meet berths, including Arabia Mountain, Cedar Grove, Columbia, Druid Hills, McNair, Stone Mountain and Towers. The Druid Hills Red Devils enter the meet as the No. 5 ranked team in Class AAA boys.
Stephenson and Martin Luther King Jr. travel to Luella on October 29 for the Region 2-AAAAA meet. The boys are slated for an 11:30 a.m. start with the girls following at 12 p.m.
