First Baptist Church of Tucker Celebrates Faculty Members of Partner Schools

During a challenging school year, the faculties of Idlewood Elementary School, Tucker Middle School, and Tucker High School worked so hard. For part of one day, we had the privilege of serving them!

The day after students were finished with classes in the DeKalb County School District, teachers and other faculty members reported to their schools as usual for post-planning and other final duties.  At three schools, faculty members were treated to special meals and treats from the people of the First Baptist Church of Tucker.  At Idlewood Elementary School and Tucker Middle School, faculty members were treated to a breakfast buffet that included biscuits, sausage, yogurt, fruit and other items to help make the last faculty day of school easier to celebrate.  At noon, the faculty members of Tucker High School crossed Lavista Road to the Main Street Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church where they were fed a hot lunch of grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and homemade desserts.  Overall, 395 faculty members were served food by volunteers from First Baptist Church of Tucker.

The giving to faculty members, however, did not end with food.  Thanks to the generosity of a number of area merchants, church volunteers were able to fill 395 goody bags for teachers that included coupons, pens, candy, and other gifts.  Per rules regarding the separation of church and state, these bags contained no spiritual or religious literature, only gifts from area merchants and a ball point pen from the church.  In addition, a number of merchants donated door prizes to give to faculty members.  As you might guess, the door prizes were a major hit at each location.

For the past five years, First Baptist Church of Tucker has held partnerships with at least two area public schools.  The church believes it is important to support the work of our teachers, faculty members, students and parents in the Tucker area because our community is only as strong as our schools.  In addition, since we are called to "love our neighbor," we have chosen to love our public school neighbors.  We are grateful for the work of the teachers, faculty members, and students in all of our Tucker cluster schools.  In a difficult year for DeKalb County schools, our students, teachers, and parents have persevered, and we want them to know they are not alone. First Baptist Church of Tucker is especially grateful to the merchants who helped us celebrate the faculty members at Idlewood Elementary, Tucker Middle, and Tucker High.  All of the businesses listed below provided coupons, gifts, and/or door prizes to this effort.  We also want to offer a special thanks to Uncle Maddio's Pizza Joint of Northlake who provided a free 9" pizza coupon for every faculty member (Yes, 395 free pizza coupons).  Please celebrate and thank these merchants for supporting our schools and teachers when you patronize them:
