Rep. Scott Holcomb Speaks Out About Mitt Romney

In time for Super Tuesday, Holcomb lets loose on the Republican frontrunner.

As Mitt Romney , Georgia House Democrat and Tucker resident Scott Holcomb released the following statement:

"The concerns that people have with Romney are more about character than policy, and this is especially true for veterans. Romney is underperforming with veterans around the country and I think that is attributable to significant questions about his character.

People who enlist in the military often come from working families and they understand what it means to work really hard. I know this because I am from a working family and I enlisted at 18. I served for six years in the Air National Guard and then six years on active duty in the Army.

Romney’s record shows a cavalier attitude to service and to veterans.  Throughout his career, he has always thought about himself first. He fired workers left and right but made sure that he filled his own pockets with millions of dollars. As a veteran, I don’t find that terribly inspiring and I think most other veterans would agree.

As Governor, Romney sought to cut veterans programs by 11% despite a stronger economy than we have today. As a candidate for president, Romney proposed a vouchers program for veterans’ healthcare. When this was met with wide criticism, he executed an about face and retracted the proposal.

Romney has changed his positions and purported core values so many times that I don’t know what he stands for. Will he feel tough one minute and weak the next and change his mind depending on his mood? If something goes wrong will he abandon the policy and, worse yet, the troops?

I want a President with a backbone and I want a President whose values outlast the expiration date on a gallon of milk. I think Mitt Romney has, and will continue to have, a veterans’ problem. We will soon see how he does here in Georgia – a state with more than 700,000 veterans. I predict he will underperform with veterans and their families."
