DeKalb County to Hold Public Meetings on Transportation Projects

Four meetings, one of them in Tucker, are scheduled for March to discuss possible projects related to the Transportation Investment Act.

DeKalb County has scheduled four public meetings next month to hear residents' input on possible transportation projects related to Georgia's 2010 Transportation Investment Act.

The bill authorizes regions to hold a referendum on a one-cent sales tax for transportation improvements, and a list of projects to be funded with the tax income will be drawn up before the vote can take place next year.

The deadline is March 30, 2011 for counties and cities to submit project proposals to the Georgia Department of Transportation and the regional roundtable of local leaders, according to a DeKalb County press release.Β The tax could fund projects "including transit, roadway, safety, bicycle and pedestrian improvements," according to the statement from the DeKalb County Government communications office.
