Teacher Indicted on 22 Counts in Sex Case

More charges are now pending against former math teacher Almarcus Thomas.

Tucker Middle School teacher Almarcus Dewayne Thomas has been indicted on 22 counts in connection with accusations of the statutory rape of a 15-year-old student.

Thomas, 42, a seventh grade teacher and head of 's math department, was arrested Feb. 29 and was originally charged with four counts of aggravated child molestation and three counts of statutory rape.

Today's indictment represents a significant change in the severity of the case and is the result of an ongoing investigation into Thomas' alleged activities.

The charges now include five counts of statutory rape, eight counts of aggravated child molestation, three counts of sexual assault against a person in custody, two counts of sexual exploitation of children, two counts of invasion of privacy and one count of child molestation, according to 11Alive.com.

"These alleged crimes involve a man who preyed on a minor while in a position of authority and respect as an educator," said District Attorney Robert James. "This 22-count indictment reflects a man who molested, abused and took advantage of women and children. We fully intend to prosecute this case to the fullest extent of the law and seek justice for all those who were affected by these crimes."
