Suspects Apprehended After a String of Attempted Robberies at CJI Gun Shop

CJI Gun Shop is heightening their security after a series of attempted robberies earlier this month.

A string of attempted robberies at CJI Gun Store in Tucker ended when the repeat thieves were arrested last Wednesday.

A group of young men, seen in the video obtained from CJI, attempted to break in to the gun shop on three separate occasions, first using a gun to attempt to bash the store’s bulletproof glass windows and later throwing a concrete block through the glass.

DeKalb County Police apprehended them after the most recent break-in attempt on the evening of Tuesday, July 16.

“Honestly, I think they were casing the store,” Heather Somerstein, a safety consultant and firearm trainer, said of the attempted thieves. “We’ve got fully automatic machine guns here and I think that they liked what they saw.”

Somerstein runs her business, Insight Tactical, out of CJI. Insight Tactical provides home safety assessments and firearms training to gun owners.

After the first attempted break in, CJI increased their security in an effort to keep their products from falling into the wrong hands.

“We’re committed to not having anyone be able to break in to our store and have those guns on the streets,” Somerstein said.

CJI staff reinforced their safe and locked their guns in a separate undisclosed location. “We’re a part of the community and we’re fighting against having people break-in and have illegal guns on the street,” Somerstein said.
