Police Warn of Telephone Scam

A person claiming to be a police officer called a resident to collect a ticket fine - something neither the cops nor the court would do.

Police at DeKalb's Tucker Precinct recently got a report about a telephone scam.

A resident told police that a person "identifying themselves as a police officer and was calling to collect a fine related to a ticket," according to information on the Tucker Precinct's Facebook page. "This caller advised the person to call an out of state telephone number to make arrangements on that line to avoid the possibility of impending actions."

The post goes on to say that neither DeKalb police nor Recorders Court call residents to collect any form of payment for tickets or fines.

One of the ways people can make payments, besides in person, is through the county website, states the post, which also includes links to other stories about telephone scams.
