The back part of a home partially collapsed but no one was injured during a fire in the 200 block of Villa Place Court in Tucker early Sunday morning, the Gwinnett County fire department spokesman said.
When crews responded to the fire at 12:34 a.m. both levels of the home were fully consumed and the blaze was extending into the attic , said Lt. Colin Rhoden said in a press release about the incident.
Crews came in through the first floor and put out the fire. The heat and flames got worse on the upper floor and attic. The Battalion commander saw that the there were impending collapse conditions on the back side of the home, Rhoden said.
Firefighters then began to extinguish the fire from the outside of the home with the ladder truck. Parts of the back of the house collapsed.
Crews brought the blaze under control around 1:05 a.m. and put property conservation tactics in place. There was some fire and water damage to a neighboring home.
Fire investigators came to the scene to determine the cause of the fire and the conditions which led to the unusual fire growth and intensity, Rhoden said. Attempts were being made to contact the resident.
