Update: Burglar Caught in the Act Is a Minor

Two men broke into a house on Drayton Woods Drive, but only one got away.

Updated Thursday, June 27, 12:20 p.m.

Police have revealed that the man arrested last Friday in the 1430 Drayton Woods Drive burglary attempt is in fact a boy of minor age, and therefore are not releasing his name. They also say the suspect was found in the basement with help from a police dog.

Officer N.L. Valtchev stated in an incident report: "Upon my arrival I observed that the back basement widow was cracked open and that the bug screen was removed. I also heard noises coming from inside the location and I observed a black male inside the basement."

A man who broke into a Tucker residence Friday was caught and arrested by police while he was still inside the house. An accomplice got away.

Ten police cars sped down Drayton Woods Drive around noon after receiving a 911 call from a neighbor. He told Patch he saw two young black males arriving on bicycles. "I just happened to be looking out my widow. One of them stayed on the street while the other tried the front door handle to see if it was locked."

The neighbor said they then took their bikes down Theory Way, a side street, walked back to the house shortly afterward and got inside through another entrance. When police arrived, one of the men bolted out the front door while the other was trapped inside.

Half an hour later the suspect, wearing a bright red t-shirt and jeans, was brought outside in handcuffs and placed in a police cruiser.

The two bicycles were found under a bridge on Theory Way, where another neighbor said the same men tried to come into her home but she threatened to shoot them so they ran away, according to resident Jan Mixon.
