Burglar Smashes Gas Station Window, Steals Thousands

Police are investigating the theft of $10,000 from a business in Tucker.

A burglar smashed a gas station window with a large rock in the middle of the night and managed to steal $10,000 in cash, according to police.

When the owner of Valero arrived at 7 a.m. on Jan. 20, he found "the register till laying on the floor of the office surrounded by loose bills and coins," the incident report revealed.

A surveillance video showed "a light-complexioned unknown gender person" who climbed through the window opening, grabbed a bunch of cash and stuffed it into the pockets of a sweat shirt, then climbed back out.

The owner told police he had between $8,000 and $9,000 in deposit bags on a shelf under the register, and another $1,000 in the register itself. All of it was taken, with the exception of about $26 dropped by the suspect as he was leaving.

The gas station and convenience store is located at 1836 Mountain Industrial Boulevard in Tucker, near the Highway 78 exit.
