Fifteen Lives Claimed in Holiday Travel

Georgia State Patrol releases final count of traffic fatalities over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, 15 people died in traffic accidents, according to the Georgia State Patrol website. Last year, there were 13 overall fatalities for the same travel period from Wednesday at 6 p.m. to midnight Sunday.Β 

Areas reporting fatal crashes include Gwinnett, Cartersville, Blue Ridge, Toccoa, Columbus, Forsyth, Villa Rica, Richmond and Sylvania.

Despite the increased fatalities, the number of crashes and injuries were actually down from the previous year, according to the data. In 2010, the State Patrol reported 437 crashes and 397 injuries. This year, those numbers are 434 and 247 respectively.Β
