DeKalb Police Taking Citizen Academy Applications

The Citizen Academy of the DeKalb County Police Department is seeking applicants to fill its course in May, according to a statement released yesterday.

The Academy is a 10 week course, free to the public, that allows the community to gain an inside perspective of law enforcement. The sessions consist of lectures and demonstrations given by patrol officers and detectives that teach participants about the complexities and operational structure of their units.

The purpose is to give citizens an insider’s view of law enforcement and help build stronger relationships between the community and the police.

Participants must consent to a background check and have no prior felony convictions. They must either live or work in DeKalb County and be at least 21 years old.

Applications are available at each Police Precinct or by emailing Officer Jefferson at gkJeffer@dekalbcountyga.gov and must be submitted by April 27 to the DeKalb County Police Training Unit (Attention: Officer Jefferson), 2484 Bruce Street, Lithonia, GA 30058.
