DeKalb Police Chief Says D.C. Gunman Arrested Locally in 2008

DeKalb County Police Chief Cedric Alexander says Washington, D.C. gunman Aaron Alexis was arrested locally on a disorderly conduct charge.

During an appearance on 'Morning Joe,' Tuesday, DeKalb County Police Chief Cedric Alexander said authorities are looking into a 2008 local arrest of deceased gunman Aaron Alexis.

"He paid the fine and went on about his way," Alexander said. "We are going to delve into today, once our county offices open, what the circumstances were around that disorderly conduct..."

Alexander served on a previous MSNBC panel on gun violence. On Tuesday's show he discussed the pattern of anger, violence and mental illness in mass shootings and gun violence.

Authorities say Alexis killed 12 people at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday before being killed in a standoff.
