Atlanta Radio DJ Shot During Shootout with DeKalb Police

Shooting outside the Velvet Room club on Chamblee Tucker Road was one of two overnight shootings involving DeKalb police.

A popular Atlanta DJ was shot and wounded during an early Monday morning altercation with DeKalb police outside a club in the 3300 block of Chamblee Tucker Road.

According to DeKalb police, the shooting took place outside the Velvet Room nightclub and the injured DJ has been identified as Ronald Robinson, who on air at Hot 107.9 is known as “Beestroh.”

FOX 5 reports that Robinson, 39, was arrested after the shooting inside the club, which was hosting an album release party for rappers Rick Ross and Sean “Diddy” Combs.

The shooting reportedly occurred around 4 a.m. following a dispute in the club’s parking lot involving Robinson and another man.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that two off-duty officers working Velvet Room heard gunshots outside of the club. When they responded to the scene, “one subject turned toward them, firing shots.”

The officers returned fire and Robinson was shot in the leg. By standard procedure, the officers involved in the shooting are now on administrative leave pending an investigation.

Robinson, who was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, faces two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer.

It wasn’t the only overnight shooting involving a DeKalb officer as WSB reports that a Stone Mountain police officer wounded a suspect on Ridge Forest Drive late Sunday night.

The man, who suffered non-life threatening injuries, reportedly jumped out of a vehicle and ran after police tried to pull him over.
