Armed Robbery with 'Submachine Gun' at Main Street Bank

A man and his accomplice took off with cash - and a tracking device.

A man help up the PNC Bank on Tucker's Main Street late Friday afternoon, armed with "possibly a submachine gun or small assault rifle," police said in an incident report.Β

Paul Bridges, a teller, told officers a man carrying a black book bag approached him at 4:45 p.m. and asked to cash a check. The man then pulled out a weapon and demanded money. He ran outside with $1,936, but Bridges had placed a GPS tracking device inside the bag along with the cash.

In the parking lot, the suspect climbed into a powder blue Chevrolet Malibu driven by another man. A staff member "observed the vehicle flee toward Main Street" but was unable to provide a description of the driver, police said.

"Radio continued to provide updates from the company tracking the money to other units that were attempting to locate the vehicle," the report stated, but it did not say whether the suspects have yet been found. Β
