A memorial mass for Joseph James Sofet will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Monday, Oct. 14 at 11 a.m.
Sofet died at home on Tuesday, Oct. 8 of natural causes. He was 63, and was known in the area as a businessman, entrepeneur and musician. "Joe was a great guy and fun musician to play with. He was an excellent singer and could handle those Doobie Brothers tunes," his friend Paul Mayne wrote in a tribute.
Sofet was a business associate of Bill Rosenfeld, owner of Rosenfeld's International Diamond Gallery on LaVista Road.
He is survived by his daughter, Rita Lynn Rappaport of Tucker, and his granddaughter Taylor. Sofet's family has asked that donations be made to The American Heart Association instead of flowers.
