Party Time: Robby Robinson Turns 100

Robinson ran Smith Shoes in Tucker for 25 years.

Tucker's Robby Robinson celebrated his 100th birthday on Sunday with many friends in attendance. Trish England of the Tucker Historical Society was there and wrote a short piece about it.Β

Hello, Geezers and Geezettes! Brief report on my trip to Robby's 100th Birthday Party at Evangel Community Christian Church in Centerville on Sunday, Aug. 11.

Harry and Kathy Powell and I got there early (because Robby gave me the wrong time) but we enjoyed spending time with Robby's daughter Dee Turner, her husband Jerry, and their children and grandchildren. There were almost 100 people there, mostly members of the church.

Robby had been busy all morning, and proceeded to spend all day, standing up, talking to everyone. His energy was boundless, and he was enjoying being the center of all that attention. Also in attendance were two ladies who had worked for Smith Shoes (which Robby ran for 25 years in Tucker)Β back in high school: Jan Padgett and Carolyn Tuggle Pickens and her busband, Johnnie.

I presented to him a blue gift bag filled with the birthday cards that Tucker FB members sent in, and a long list of all of you who possted your birthday wishes. He was delighted and couldn't wait to open them up. After a plateful of snacks and two pieces of cake, I was tired! When we left, Robby was still standing and talking, and having a ball.

I'm so glad we were able to take part in this rare landmark occasion in honor of one of the best men we know.Β I offer my thanks to all of you who helped make his day special by sending cards and and well-wishes. And I'm looking forward to his 101st celebration next year!
