The Joys of Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School is a big win for moms needing a mid summer break.

As a person without children, I have never really understood the point of Vacation Bible School. I think that if you want to teach your child about faith you have much better luck doing it throughout the school year as opposed to “Jesus Bootcamp” in the summer.

This year I finally got the point: it’s not really for the kids. Obviously it needs to be safe and fun so that the kids WANT to be there, but the real “win” behind VBS however is for the parents. I have so many friends with small children who look forward to having one week in the summer where they can drop their children off in the morning, know that they are safe, and have a mommy “time out”. Brilliant. The parents get a break, the church gets a big attendance push, and everyone wins.

I have heard great things from friends about VBS at Tucker First United Methodist Church, which is located in downtown Tucker and going on this week. It’s definitely worth checking out.
